Financial Reporting: Ledgy MCP

Understand what Ledgy MCP can access in Financial Reporting and how to move report data into your accounting system.

Written by Support Team

Introduction

Ledgy MCP cannot currently query the generated data in Ledgy's Financial Reporting section.

It can read supported equity and cap-table data, but it cannot retrieve calculated expensing rows, locked financial reports, report exports, or journal entries.

This article explains what that means if you want to connect Ledgy data to Xero or another accounting system.

What Ledgy MCP can access

Ledgy MCP gives a compatible external AI tool read-only access to selected Ledgy data. The available data includes:

  • Transactions and their details

  • Company and scheme-specific valuations

  • Share classes

  • Pools and equity plans

  • Stakeholders

  • Point-in-time equity snapshots and changes

The data returned is limited by the permissions of the Ledgy account used to authorise the connection.

Important: “MCP can query Ledgy data” does not mean it can query every page or report in Ledgy. It can only use the data and actions exposed by the current MCP tool set.

What Ledgy MCP cannot access in Financial Reporting

The Financial Reporting section calculates report outputs from Ledgy's underlying equity data together with report-specific settings and reporting history.

Ledgy MCP does not currently expose tools for:

  • IFRS 2, FRS 102, or ASC 718 expensing rows

  • Monthly or period expense values from a generated report

  • Financial Reporting settings and calculation inputs as a complete report configuration

  • Locked reports or locked-report history

  • Excel or CSV report exports

  • Financial Reporting journal entries

Because these calculated outputs are not available through MCP, an external AI tool cannot retrieve the exact monthly expense report shown in Ledgy.

Note: An AI tool may be able to analyse supported source records or produce its own estimates. Those results are not the same as Ledgy's generated Financial Reporting output and should not be treated as a replacement for the report.

How to use Financial Reporting data with an accounting system

Ledgy MCP does not currently provide a direct Financial Reporting sync to Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or another accounting system.

Use the report export workflow instead:

  1. Go to Reporting > Financial.

  2. Generate or open the relevant IFRS 2, FRS 102, or ASC 718 report.

  3. Check the reporting period, filters, accounting settings, and results in Ledgy.

  4. Click Export report and download the report as Excel or CSV.

  5. Transform the exported rows into the account-code, debit/credit, and import format required by your accounting system.

  6. Review the transformed file before importing or posting it to your accounting system.

The transformation and upload happen outside Ledgy. They can be completed manually or through a separate customer-managed integration.

Important: Even if your AI tool also connects to your accounting system, Ledgy MCP still cannot supply the generated Financial Reporting rows needed for an exact report-to-ledger sync.

Frequently asked questions

Can Ledgy MCP query the Financial Reporting page?

No. It can query supported equity and cap-table data, but not the calculated reports displayed in Financial Reporting.

Can Ledgy MCP retrieve a locked report or report export?

No. Locked reports, locked-report history, and Financial Reporting Excel or CSV exports are not exposed through MCP.

Can Ledgy MCP sync a monthly expense report to Xero?

No. The current MCP cannot retrieve the exact monthly expense report or send it to Xero. Export the report from Ledgy and import a reviewed, accounting-system-ready file instead.

Can an external AI tool calculate the expense from underlying data?

It may be able to create an estimate from the records available through MCP. However, it does not receive the complete Financial Reporting calculation output, settings, and locked history, so its result may not match the report generated in Ledgy.

Could this change in the future?

Yes. Ledgy MCP is in beta and its available tool set may evolve. Ask your AI tool what Ledgy MCP can currently access, or contact Ledgy Support for the latest information.
