How does Ledgy MCP work (Beta)?

Learn what Ledgy MCP is, who should set it up, how to connect AI tools like Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT, and the current read-only limitations.

Written by Support Team

Introduction

Ledgy MCP (Beta) is a read-only connection that lets a compatible external AI tool - such as Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT - query your Ledgy data directly, in real time.

Ledgy MCP is a technical integration. Setting it up means configuring an external AI client and completing an authentication flow, so it is usually set up by someone technical - such as a member of your IT or InfoSec team - rather than an everyday Ledgy user.

Looking for a simpler, no-setup way to ask questions about your equity data from inside Ledgy instead? Use Ledgy Agent.

What is MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect directly to external services and query them in real time, instead of relying on information copied and pasted into a chat.

Ledgy MCP gives a compatible AI tool a live, read-only connection to your Ledgy data. Instead of exporting data or copying it manually, the AI tool can read from Ledgy directly - within the limits of your existing Ledgy permissions.

Who should set this up

Because Ledgy MCP involves configuring an external AI client and completing an authentication flow, we recommend involving:

  • Your IT or InfoSec team, if your company requires approval before connecting external tools to company data

  • A technical or power user who is comfortable configuring AI tools such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, or ChatGPT

If you just want to ask questions about your equity data with no setup at all, use Ledgy Agent, the AI assistant built directly into Ledgy, instead.

What you can do with Ledgy MCP today

Once connected, you can ask natural-language questions about your company's equity data from inside your AI tool. Typical examples include:

  • Viewing your fully diluted cap table

  • Looking up the details of a specific transaction

  • Searching for transactions involving a particular investor or stakeholder

  • Reviewing current equity pools and option plans

  • Checking which signatures are still outstanding

  • Reviewing offboarding or leaver configurations

  • Running simple equity calculations such as dilution scenarios

All queries run with your existing Ledgy permissions. The AI tool only sees the data your Ledgy role is allowed to access.

What you need

  • A Ledgy account with access to at least one company

  • A compatible AI tool that supports MCP

  • No extra Ledgy software to install

  3. Review the permissions

  4. Click Allow

Each connection is limited to one company at a time.

Current limits and security notes

  • Read-only - Ledgy MCP cannot create, edit, publish, or delete data in Ledgy today

  • Permission-aware - the AI tool inherits your Ledgy access level

  • One company per connection - you choose the company during the login flow

  • Secure browser login - access is granted through an OAuth authentication flow, not a shared API key

  • Disconnect from the AI tool - if you want to remove access, remove Ledgy from your AI tool's MCP settings

  • Beta feature - the available tool set may change as the beta evolves

Supported and tested AI tools

Any MCP-compatible AI tool may work, but Ledgy has explicitly tested the beta with:

  • Claude Code

  • Claude Desktop

  • Cursor

  • Codex

  • GPT / ChatGPT
