I can't log in to Ledgy. How do I find out why?

Find out why you can't log in to Ledgy, from password, 2FA, Google or SSO errors to expired invitations, and how to fix it.

Introduction

Can't get into Ledgy? Most login issues come down to one of a few things: the wrong login method, a password or 2FA code that doesn't match, an expired link or invitation, or a browser setting.

This article helps you match the message you see on screen to its cause, so you can fix most login problems yourself in a few minutes, without waiting for support.

Who this is for: anyone who logs in to Ledgy, both stakeholders and account admins. Where a step is only for account admins or your company's IT team, we say so.

Step 1: Check how you normally log in

Ledgy supports three login methods. Use the same one you used when you set up your account:

  • Email and password: enter your email, click Continue, then enter your password

  • Log in with Google: click the Google button instead of entering a password

  • Company single sign-on (SSO): if your company requires SSO, Ledgy sends you to your company's login page (for example Okta or Microsoft) as soon as you enter your work email. You'll briefly see "Taking you to your account now…"

Note: Ledgy doesn't send "magic link" login emails. The email code is only a backup for two-factor authentication.

Step 2: Match the message you see

Find the message you see on screen and click it to jump to the cause and the fix:

If your problem is with a reset link or an invitation, go to Password reset problems or Invitation problems.

"Login Failed" (after entering your password)

Causes:

  • The password is wrong

  • There's no Ledgy account for that email address (check for typos or a second email address)

  • Your company requires SSO for this email, so the password can't be used

Fix: click Forgot password? to get a reset link (see How to reset my Ledgy account password). If your company uses SSO, log in with your work email and go through your company's login page.

Note: For security reasons, Ledgy shows the same message for all three causes and doesn't say whether an account exists.

"Email is not valid"

The address has a typo, or it uses a domain that Ledgy blocks (some temporary or disposable email providers). Use your regular work or personal email.

"Invalid 2FA Code"

The code from your authenticator app is wrong or out of date, or the email code has expired (email codes are valid for 10 minutes).

Fix: check that your phone's time is set automatically, then try a fresh code. You can also click Use email code (if you set up a recovery email) or Use recovery code, as shown in the screenshot below. See two-factor authentication in Ledgy.

"We couldn't complete your login. Please try again."

The Google or SSO login was started but didn't finish. Try again in the same browser tab.

If it keeps happening with SSO, ask your company's IT team to check that your account is assigned to the Ledgy app in your identity provider (for example Okta or Microsoft).

"Your login session expired or couldn't be verified. Please try again."

The Google login took too long or your browser blocked Ledgy's cookies. Allow cookies for app.ledgy.com, close other Ledgy tabs and try again right away.

"Please verify your email address before signing in with Google."

Your account was created with email and password, and the email isn't verified yet. Open the verification email from Ledgy, or log in with your password and click Resend verification link on the Unverified email banner. Then try Google again.

Password reset problems

After you request a reset link on the Forgot password page, you see a confirmation message. Here's what the messages around a password reset mean:

  • "All set! Please check your email…" appears even if no account exists for that address, for security reasons. If no email arrives, check your spam folder and try the email address you were invited with

  • "Invalid or expired token": the reset link was already used or replaced by a newer one. Request a new link and use only the latest email

  • "Your account has no password set, and cannot be reset.": you log in with Google or SSO. Use that method instead, or contact support

  • "Please choose a stronger password": Ledgy needs a strong password. Make it longer and avoid common words

Invitation problems

If you got an invitation but can't get in, check which message you see:

  • "Expired invitation": invitations are valid for 30 days, and they also stop working if they were revoked or already accepted. Ask your company admin to re-invite you.

  • "Heads up!" (email mismatch): you're logged in with a different email than the one invited. Log out, then log in or sign up with the invited address.

  • "Oops, looks like you already have an account": you already have a Ledgy account. Click Log in here instead of signing up

If you are an account admin: when a stakeholder reports an expired invitation, send them a new one. See How to invite stakeholders.

I lost access to my authenticator app

Go to the 2FA step and choose Use recovery code or Use email code. If you have neither, follow the identity verification on the recovery page.

A company admin can't reset your 2FA. If you're still stuck, contact Ledgy support.

Note: If you log in with SSO, your 2FA is managed by your company's IT team, not by Ledgy. See How to log in after a 2FA reset.

I was logged in, and now Ledgy asks me to log in again

That's expected. Your company sets how long a session lasts (see session length). If you belong to several companies, the shortest setting applies.

If Ledgy asks you to confirm your password or SSO login while you're still logged in, that's a short security check before sensitive actions, not a logout. See Why does Ledgy ask me to authenticate again when carrying out certain actions?

Still stuck? Quick checks

  • Use an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari

  • Allow cookies for app.ledgy.com, or try a private window

  • Pause ad blockers or privacy extensions

  • If you see "too many requests", wait a minute and try again

Still can't log in? Contact the Support team via chat or email. Tell us the exact message you see and how you normally log in (password, Google or SSO), so we can find the cause faster.
